Gulgong's Centenary was a celebration weekend marking 100 years since the 1870 gold find that led to the creation of the town. The weekend included a street parade, performers and vintage vehicles. Several people were in period costume and there was a fully loaded wagon of wool with bullocks. There was also a performance in the ‘Opera House’ at night.

I can remember my mother, Betty Mackie, sewing and spending weeks making and gathering frills of gingham and calico for vintage long dresses for this parade. From memory I think the Fletcher and Lewis girls wore them on the day.
The parade made its way down Mayne Street (past our house) and along Goolma Road to the Clay Gun Club paddock that was turned into a “Shanty” town for the event.
