The school operated for nine years, during which Miss Edith Barton was the only teacher appointed. Perhaps no more that 20 children attended the school at any time and it closed in 1919. The school building was subsequently moved to the Avonside homestead area and remains part of the farm buildings today. The Avonside property was later renamed and is now known as "Yurunga".

AVONSIDE SCHOOL in the NEWS
1913 - Empire Day Celebrated at Avonside.
(From a Correspondent).
Saturday last, May 11th, will long be remembered as an eventful day at Avonside Public School and surrounding district. It was the occasion of the annual picnic of celebrating Empire Day, which was in every way a great success, and reflects great credit on their worthy teacher, Miss Barton, who, during the time she has been in charge of the school, has made herself immensely popular and liked by all classes in the district. She was ably assisted all through by the parents of the children attending the school.
Every child during the day received a prize of some kind, and games of all descriptions were indulged in. Too much praise cannot be given to Belinda Vale for the many special prizes given, and also for the great interest taken, which made the events very interesting. The event was held in Mr. Campton's paddock, just in front of the school. It rained a little through the day which stopped proceedings for a while, otherwise it was everything that could be desired. At night a dance was held at Mr. Atkins', which was very largely attended. The duties of M.C. was entrusted to Mr. Costello, who carried out his duties very satisfactorily. The music was supplied by Messrs. Edmunds and Fred, and Harry Milsom in their usual good style. Dancing was kept going till late when all left for home after spending a very pleasant and most successful day.
