Sale advertisement, 1908
Springfield was listed for sale by tender by AC Garling in 1908.
Mr and Mrs Hutchinson bought the property and later left it to Tom & Bethyl Lewis (before the 2nd World War). They then had the new house built for them. It was a 48-square residence with invisible nailed Jarrah floors (from WA), lots of leadlight windows throughout, enclosed verandahs up each side and a grapevine-covered courtyard at the back enclosed on three sides by the house.
The swimming pool was based on a pool design Tom and Bethyl Lewis had seen on their overseas trip. The pool and the shearing shed were built with Italian POW labour.
