TURNER

MR GEO TURNER - GULGONG VETERAN PASSES.

Death took place at Gulgong on Tuesday last of Mr. G. Turner, aged 83 years. Deceased was a very old resident of Gulgong, and was held in the highest esteem. He was born at Northampton, England, and came to Australia when a young man. For a time he worked in Sydney, and like hundreds of others was attracted by the gold rush. He came to Gulgong in the seventies, and had lived here ever since. Deceased took pride in that he had been an Odd-fellow for 60 years, 44 of which was spent in the Gulgong lodge.
He was a builder by trade, and built the Roman Catholic Church and the old butter factory, which was burnt down some years ago. He was also an alderman of the shire Council for a number of years. Deceased possessed the sporting instinct, cricket being his favorite pastime, and right up to the time of his death he took a keen interest in the game. Recently he was very active for his age, and up to a few weeks ago assisted his son in carrying on his business as an undertaker.
He leaves a family of four daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. J. Bennett (?n). Mrs. J. Clark (Dapper), Mrs. Noy and Mrs. J. Hollow (C?an), Mr. S. Turner (Gulgong), Mr S Turner (Manly), and Mr. Turner (Bourkc). The funeral took place on Wednesday, the remains being laid to rest in the Methodist portion of the general cemetery. Rev. G. S. Watts (Methodist) and Rev. Bensley (Presbyterian) officiated. Members of the M.U.I.O.O.F followed the remains to the graveside. We extend to the bereaved ones our deepest sympathy.
