1885 - [STORM]
A terrific storm passed over Gulgong last night. The Catholic Chapel was blown to the ground. The front of S. Bishop's brick building was blown into the street, totally smashing the veranda. The public school was much damaged. One of Scully's buildings fell in, burying a Mrs. Deihm, who was removed to the hospital, having been seriously hurt.
Nearly every building in Gulgong was damaged. Some wonderful escapes occurred during the storm, which did not last five minutes.

1885 - A New Catholic Church for Gulgong.
On Sunday next Monsignor Byrne will lay the foundation stone of a new edifice which, is to replace the old structure that succumbed to the fury of the late cyclone which did so much damage at Gulgong. We learn that the building will be one of the neatest structures outside the town of Mudgee. The plans have been prepared by Mr. Gell, of Bathurst. The edifice when completed, will, be, an ornament to the town, and will cost about £3000. We further learn that some handsome donations, have been published towards the object.

GULGONG, Saturday.
Messrs. Tuxford, Zimmler, and White were returning from the Canadian last night, when the buggy in which they were riding collided against an alignment post close to town, and they were all thrown out of the vehicle. Mr. Tuxford had his right leg sprained, Mr. Zimmler's head was badly cut, but Mr. White was not hurt.
