They belonged to the Presbyterian Church and Dr Les had a beautiful singing voice.
Drs. Marj and Les Tunley were members of the "real doctors" team, when there was very little support in the forms of pathology, histopathology, virtually no xray equipment and all diagnoses were the product of hours of swatting over endless textbooks, and the dreaded Viva, culminating in a presentation and demonstration to a board of senior medical / professorial examiners, to assess the capacity of the student to be let loose on the uninformed public. This process was made all the more difficult by the attitude of the time, (I use the vernacular, "Yer done wanna be a whinger")!
Dr. "Bob" Alport assisted in major surgical procedures, - multi-trauma road or farming accidents, involving foreign objects penetrating people's vital "bits" and the "new chap in town" the dentist, Dr. Les Griffin, frequently acted as anesthetist. Marjorie was the district "ladies doctor" and delivered most of the population by her retirement from the practice.
Drs. Marj and Les had a broad range of skills, from dermatology, gynaecology, thoracic medicine, cardiology, infectious diseases, surgical intervention of malignancies and amputations, which is a huge responsibility in the bush! anf they still had time to grow the best roses in town!
