    1872 - COACH ACCIDENT
At about a quarter past 6 o'clock on Thursday evening (says the Western Post), as Mr. Little's coach, from Gulgong, was approaching the dam over Cox's Swamp, on the Menah Flat Road, a dogcart containing a man named Joseph Williams, from the Canadian Lead, his wife and young child, came dashing along and reached it. In endeavouring to pass, the dogcart came in contact with the hind wheel of the coach, and the occupants of the former were thrown out. The female passenger was thrown face downwards, and a wheel of the dogcart passed over her back. Fortunately constables Oliver and M'Gillon were on the spot, and assisted in lifting the dogcart off the unfortunate woman, whom they put
into the coach and sent to Mudgee to receive medical attendance. The male passenger sustained a few slight scratches, but the child was uninjured.

    1875 - MEASLES
The 'Gulgong Argus' relates that the family of Mr. Egan, a farmer near the Canadian Lead, has been sadly bereaved during the past few weeks. In the first place, all the members of the family were suffering from measles. Partially recovering from that disease, typhoid fever supervened, which has proved fatal in four instances. Four of the children, aged respectively 8, 11, 15, and 18 years, have died during the past ten days, and the father now lies in a very critical position, suffering from the same disease.

    1910 - PROSPECTOR'S DEATH
Mr. William Mayes, an old resident of Canadian, near Gulgong, died in the local hospital last evening. Deceased had resided at Canadian since 1871, and was one of the prospectors who discovered the famous Canadian Lead gold mine.
