GURNEY

1940 - WEDDINGS - Gurney—Campbell
AT St. John's Church, Wahroonga, on Saturday afternoon, November 9, Miss Marjorie Campbell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Campbell, of "Trilby," Gulgong, was wed to Leading Aircraftsman Denis Gurney, of Lindfield, formerly of Gulgong. He is the second son of Mr. and Mrs A. Gurney, of Surrey, England, and a nephew of Mr. R. J. Gurney, of Gulgong. The Rev. D. J. Flockhart, M.A.. officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore an ivory satin gown, cut on classical lines, and an embroidered tulle veil held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. She wore a gold locket, which was the gift of the bridegroom. The bouquet was a sheaf of November lilies and real orange blossom. Mrs. J. Wilson, aunt of the bride, sent a hand-made handkerchief from the Solomon Islands, to be carried on her wedding day.
Aline Muscio, niece of the bride, was train-bearer. Her old world frock of pink spotted net over satin and matching poke bonnet were relieved with bows of blue velvet. On her arm she carried a floral basket ot carnations and hydrangea. Miss Linda Campbell attended her sister as bridesmaid. Her frock was of pink torchon lace over satin, trimmed with kingfisher blue velvet. She carried a shower bouquet of pink and cream carnations, maidenhair fern and blue hydrangea. Mr. Douglas Campbell was best man.
The reception was held at "Rossmore," Arcadia, the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rivett. The bride's travelling frock was a pervenche blue ensemble, with which she wore white accessories. The honeymoon, on account of the bridegroom's final leave, was a curtailed one and was spent at Manly.

1941 - [TRAINING COMPLETE]

1942 - Gulgong Boy in Big Daylight Raid
Among the 35 Australian airmen who took part in the big raid on the Schneider-Creusot works in France on 17th October, was Sgt. Denis A. Gurney, of Gulgong. The Minister for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair, has sent a message to the chief of the Bomber Command, Air-Marshal Sir Arthur Harris, that 'the War Cabinet congratulated the command for the successful attack. The skill and daring with which this daylight raid was planned and executed and the weight of the blow you have struck against German war production in occupied France are fully appreciated by the Government.

The Schneider-Creusot Armament Works are amongst the largest in the world. Mrs. D. A. Gurney, who was formerly Miss Marjorie Campbell, resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs R. Campbell, of Trilby, Gulgong, and is rightly proud of her hero husband, as we all should be.

Dennis enlisted in the R.A.A.F. early in the war, and after only a short period of training in Australia went to Canada under the Empire Training Scheme. He has been in many other big raids on Germany, and is evidently doing a good job. No doubt our next word of him will be that he is among the latest list of D.F.C. winners.

1944 - [LEAVE]
Flight Sergeant Denis Gurney, who has been overseas and in numerous operational flights over enemy territory during the last 2½ years, arrived, home in Gulgong on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife, formerly Miss Marjorie Campbell, who went to Sydney to meet her husband.
