The travelling hawker would carry things not often available at the stores in Gulgong, like sewing notions, (needles, pins and thread), some fabric and spices and dates, hence all the date palm trees scattered around the homesteads.

This hawkers van was used by Indian hawkers who called on country households to sell clothing and many essential household goods before the days of motor cars.
