LETTERS FROM JOE TO HAZEL

Mayne Street
Gulgong 6.10.27
My Dearest Hazel,

As you said the other night to write to you I though it would be better to do so before I get into trouble. I hope you got home alright the other night after the dance.

The pictures and play was on the following night. It wasn’t much good because it was nearly all pictures. Give me the dance every time before those sorts of things. Have you forgotten the look of the costumes yet? I can till picture them in my mind yet.

It is not as good as sitting in the car though is it “Kid”.

I still have the little flower you gave me and you bet your life I’m going to keep it to. It is not the flower it is the girl that gave it to me. It is a pitty that dance wasn’t again to night.

I believe there is another dance on at Crafts on Saturday night the 12th if November. It is about half way, from Jim Crafts to the Tucklan store.

For goodness sake “kid” come over that night. I am going out feeling sure you will be there. It is too dead about here of a Saterday because the only time I enjoy myself is when you and I meet. I hope you did not get “roared” on the other night. Roy [Hazel’s brother] was the best of all of us that time goodness knows if he is always like that. (don’t tell him will you)

Well “sweetheart” I must end my letter as it is time to go to bed. Hoping to see you on Saterday, with best of love From J Jackson

Please excuse writing as I am in a hurry

(Do not let your mother get)
(hold of this or she will)
(blow me up a treat)

My Loving Sweetheart

I am sure I don’t know what to think of you “Love”. I have been waiting for a letter from you for days. I thought it may have been delayed in the Post. and maybe you did not write one. I hope you haven’t been washed out “Love” with all that rain. My word it rained in here there was about five inches altogether I think. It makes the old town look a bit cleaner anyhow. They say it rained heavily in Mudgee and nearly washed it away.

Anyhow “Darling” you didn’t get to Goolma the other night. It wasn’t much good. There was too many Kids skipping about the floor. I think altogether I had three dances, and then I watched the others dance.

Anyhow “sweetheart” we will have to meet again on Saterday and bet your life we will have a good time. This is getting a very dead place for dances now, they haven’t had one for a long time now and I don’t know when the next will be.

Be sure and come on Saterday, Love because I will be disappointed if you don’t. Enid [Joe’s sister] is pesting the life out of us to take her out too. I suppose we will have to take her. She says ther is not place like Cobbora for dancing now. I am glad too because it is an excuse for me then. Anyhow “Darling” I will see you on Saterday and for goodness sake “Sweety” write soon and tell me all the news.

I am
Yours with love
Joseph Jackson

1931 - WEDDING BELLS. JACKSON—EDMUNDS.
A very pretty wedding took place at St. Luke's Church of England, Gulgong, on, February 18, the Rev. L. V. Caldwell officiating, between Miss Hazel Wilma Edmunds, only daughter of the late Mr C. Edmunds and Mrs Edmunds, of 'Willow Park', Cobbora, and Mr Joseph John Lonsdale Jackson, second eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. R. Jackson, of Mayne Street, Gulgong. The bride who was given away by her brother, Mr. Roy Edmunds, looked charming in a beautiful ankle-length frock of ivory georgette and lace; her veil was worn with a wreath of bridal flowers and fell in graceful folds to the floor. She also carried a shower bouquet of white carnations and lilies of the valley, mingled with sweet peas and peach blossoms and tied with silver streamers. Miss Thelma Piper, a cousin of the bride, as bridesmaid, wore a pretty ankle length frock of pink crepe-de-chene and large picture hat to match and carried a bouquet of shell pink sweet peas and rosebuds mounted on blue tulle. Mr T. R. Jackson, brother of the bridegroom, attended as best man. After the ceremony Mrs. Edmunds, mother of the bride, who wore a smart frock of navy georgette and lace, and Mrs Jackson, mother of the bridegroom, in a very becoming frock of brown reversible satin, received the guests at the residence of Mr T. R. Jackson, where the wedding breakfast was held. The tables were prettily decorated with pink and white flowers and streamers, and over the centre a large horseshoe of white and silver suspended on white and silver streamers, bore the motto "Good Luck to You." After the toast had been honored the young couple left by car for the honeymoon, the bride travelling in a beige marlette frock with hat to match. The future home of the happy pair will be in Gulgong.
