TALLAWANG TOWNSHIP

The name TALLEWANG is said to derive from “dallawong” a wild apple. The New Wiradjuri Dictionary 2010 lists “dalawang” as the Apple Box Tree, Eucalyptus bridgesiana.

Sands Directory lists Mrs F. J. Docwra as having a wine bar at Tallawang from 1902 to 1906. 

Sarah Ann Docwra married James Niven's youngest brother Leonard Niven in 1897 in Gulgong. They divorced in 1914.

Tallawang Post Office

1886

New Post Offices.-The Gazette of October 26 says the following new post offices have been established:-

  • Tallewang, near Gulgong.

1913 - TALLEWANG POST MASTER.
Mr. C. Lincoln [Charlie] has relinquished the position of postmaster at Tallewang after many years' service. We understand that Mr. O'Brien will undertake the duties.
