JUNE - [THE VALUE OF LAND]
The value of land in Gulgong does not decrease much in value, for on Friday last Messrs. Pound and Ross purchased from Mr. Carter one quarter-acre allotment at the east end of Mayne-street for £25, not a bad price, £100 an acre for what some choose to call a declining gold-field.
Now that the Government have announced their determination to throw open the non-auriferous land, hundreds are ready to avail themselves of the opportunity to select. I believe for the first batch of 8000 acres there will be ten times more applicants than this first instalment will satisfy.
During the whole of Sunday a steady rain fell, which will be a great blessing to all engaged in farming pursuits. To-day (Monday) the wind is bitterly cold. — June 12.
