1901 - Belara and Goolma Mems.
On Saturday last a very successful hare drive took place at Mr. A. Stewart's. About 60 persons assisted to scour the surrounding hills at Mrs. C. Sherman's boundary. The drivers

commenced operations and continued until 1 p.m., when all hands adjourned to Mr. A. Stewart's residence, where the wants of all were supplied with a sumptuous spread prepared by Mrs. Stewart. After an hour's rest the drive commenced again and did not cease until 6 o'clock. Owing to the dry weather the hares were scarce, except in the paddocks, where there

is water. Some 40 hares were got rid of. During the hunt a beautiful black rabbit was captured, which was declared to be Jimmy Governor [the Aboriginal outlaw]. Another drive is to be held at Mr. Jack Donnelly's on Saturday next.

1945 - [OBITUARY]
The death occurred in Gulgong on 8th instant at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. Gaudry, of Mayne Street, of one of Gulgong's oldest and most highly respected residents in the person of Mr. Archibald Stewart, aged 84 years.

Born near Mudgee in 1860, he resided at Goolma for many years previous to coming to Gulgong some 37 years ago. He had been unable to get about for a number of years, and was confined to his bed for the past eight months, but still possessed a very clear memory of early Gulgong days, and was able to speak of many interesting happenings right until the end. His wife predeceased him 35 years ago. The family, all of whom were born at Gulgong, are: Oswald (Portland), Florence (Sydney), Richard (Lithgow), Alice (Mrs. Walsh, Gulgong), Nellie (Mrs. W. Gaudry, Gulgong), Jessie (Mrs. Holmes, Sydney). All attended the funeral. An impressive service was held at the Presbyterian Church by the Rev. G. J. Stevens, who also officiated at the graveside. There were some very beautiful floral tributes. Funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. D. Whale, for Gulgong Motor Funerals. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved.
