Garth Fletcher was a local doctor in Gulgong for many years. The Council made the park as a memorial to him and his wife.
The two-storey building located at the bottom of Mayne Street, on the corner of Mayne and Medley was once Dr Humphrey's Surgery and the stone building next door became Dr Fletcher's Surgery.

Mrs. J. T. Bycroft, of Taree, is on a visit to her father, Mr. William Fletcher, of Gulgong. Mr. Fletcher, who is a retired sea captain, is 87 years of age. He recently fell down some steps and fractured his leg, and Mrs. Bycroft is nursing him during his unfortunate illness. He is practically the last of the Gulgong pioneers, coming to the district with the Gulgong gold rush; he has resided there ever since. He is ex-District Master of the Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows, and was secretary of the institution for many years. On relinquishing the position the brethren made him a hand some presentation. Mrs. Harry Suters, of Wauchope, is also a daughter. Mrs. Suters returned to her family circle on Monday, after spending several weeks assisting in the nursing of her father.
