1907 - A Gulgong Wedding.
The wedding was celebrated at St. John's R.C. Church, Gulgong, on Wednesday, May 1st, of Mr. Owen McAuley [sic], second son of Mr. Bernard McAuley [sic], of Ulan, and Miss Mary Rivas, only daughter of Mr. George Rivas, of Uarbry. Monsignor Long performed the ceremony.

1907 - McCAULEY— RIVAS.
At St. John's R.C. Church. Gulgong, on Wednesday, May 1, when Mary, only daughter of Mr. George Rivas, of Uarbry, was married to Owen, second son of Mr. Bernard McCauley, of Ulan. Monsignor Long performed the ceremony. Given away by her brother, Mr. George Rivas, the bride was attired in a dress of white silk, trimmed with silk insertion and lace, a wreath and veil, and a gold brooch, gift of the bridegroom. She carried a white ivory prayer-book, gift of Mrs. George Rivas. Miss Nellie McCauley, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. She wore a blue silk voile, trimmed with cream insertion and lace, white hat, trimmed with blue silk chiffon and blue hydrangeas, and a gold brooch, gift of the bridegroom. Miss Veronica M'Auley, cousin of the bridegroom, was second bridesmaid, in blue silk voile, trimmed with lace and insertion. She wore a gold bangle, gift of the bridegroom. Mr. John M'Auley, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The wedding breakfast was spread at the house of Mr. D. McCauley. The usual toasts were honored. The happy couple lelt for Katoomba on their honeymoon. The bride's travelling dress was of navy Sicilian, with blue hat.

1910 - A FARMER'S MISHAP. (By Telegraph). SYDNEY. Tuesday.
George Rivas, a farmer living near Gulgong, shot a rabbit and then struck it with the stock of a Pea rifle. The weapon exploded, and the bullet entered his stomach. His condition now is critical.

1910 - PEA-RIFLE ACCIDENT. GULGONG, Monday.
Mr. George Rivas, 32, a farmer, of Uarbry, who accidentally shot himself in the abdomen with a pea-rifle, has died. Deceased leaves a widow and two young children, and a baby 3 months old.

1910 - DEATH.
Mr. George Rivas, jun., who met with a rifle accident some time ago, and showed symptoms of favorable recovery, took a turn for the worse on Saturday morning last, and succumbed to his injury. The body was taken to Uarbry for burial. Deceased was a fine fellow, well liked by everyone, and much sympathy has been expressed for his wife and family.

1927 - Obituary - MR. GEORGE RIVAS.
Mr. George Rivas, who has been known as one of the finest of the old pioneers of this district, passed away at his home at Uarbry, early on Sunday morning last. The late Mr. Rivas, who was a native of Iviza (Spain), was 79 years of age. He was fine type of man, and was highly esteemed throughout this district. His sixty years residence in Australia was mostly spent here. A widow, a son (Antonia) and a daughter (Mrs. McCauley, of Ulan) survive. The funeral took place at Uarbry yesterday (Monday) morning, the Rev. Father Eviston, of Dunedoo, officiating at the graveside. Mr. J. Clark, of Gulgong, carried out the funeral arrangements. 1943 - Mrs. M. Rivas
Quite a gloom was cast over the Uarbry district on Tuesday of last week when the news spread around that Mrs. Margaret Rivas had passed away. Deceased had not been enjoying good health for the past four or five years, and her death was not unexpected. She had attained the great age of 89 years. Her husband predeceased her by 16 years. She was born at Menah. Mudgee, where her parents (Mr. and Mrs. Boyce) lived. She went to Uarbry when very young and remained there as one of the pioneers right up to the time of her death. Early in life she married Mr. George Rivas. of Uarbry and they settled on the land there. The property is still being carred on by members of the Rivas family. She leaves to mourn one son. Anthony (Coolah). and one daughter, Mrs. A. McCauley (Coolah). A number of grandchildren are also left to mourn. The remains were laid to rest in the Uarbry Cemetery beside those of her late husband. Father Curran, of Dunedoo, officiated at the graveside. The funeral arrangements wore carried out by Mr. D. Whale, of Gulgong Motor Funerals. Our sympathy is extended.
