Michael McCoy was born in Ireland about 1838. He came to Australia from Ireland (year unknown). At the age of 38 in 1876 he married Mary Connell in Gulgong (NSW BDM 3391/1876) where he worked as a miner. Their children included:

- Bridget - born 1878; died 1879 in Gulgong (NSW BDM 7101/1879)
Baby Bridget died on 26 March 1879 at the age of 10 months. She had suffered convulsions for 5 days and was last attended by Dr Barnard on 25 March. She is buried in Gulgong. - Philip - born 1879
- Mary E - born 1881; at age 32, married Walter Dent in Petersham in 1913 (NSW BDM 9718/1913); died 13 March 1918 aged 37. Buried at Rookwood Catholic M2 E, 2494.
Michael McCoy died on 29 January 1882 at the age of 44 (NSW BDM 9991/1882). The cause was heart disease (of 9 days duration). He was attended by Dr Barnard. He is buried in Gulgong. John Connell, his father-in-law, was the informant of the death. At the time of his death Michael had one son and two daughters living.
