James Muir was born in Glasgow.
Margaret Halliday was born in Edinburgh in about 1804 to James Halliday (a gardener) and Elizabeth McLoud.
James and Margaret were both convicts from Scotland. Margaret arrived in Australia in 1832. They met and married in Bathurst in 1833 when Margaret was 29. They had three daughters there before moving to Mudgee.
James was employed by Rouse as a shepherd at Guntawang and/or Biraganbil. James and Margaret's children included:
Margaret Muir nee Halliday died 10 June 1867 at Cudgegong of "Cold and exposure". She was buried at Biraganbil. Four female children of James and Margaret Muir were deceased at the time of their mother's death in 1867.
A death record for James Muir has not yet been found. He is known to have applied for a miners licence in 1859, but didn't renew it in 1860.
