1908 - Death of an Old Resident. [Susan's mother]

On Sunday morning last, the death occurred in Gulgong of Mrs. Alderman, the relict of the late Wm. Alderman of Guntawang, and mother of Mrs. Baldock and Mrs. Tattersall. Deceased was 85 years of age, and had resided at Guntawang for considerably over half a century. She was a kindly hearted old lady, and many expressions of regret are heard that her demise has removed one from their midst who was a link between the present and the earliest history of the district, one who was universally esteemed and respected as a honest-hearted Christian lady and a good friend to many.

The late Mrs. Susan Baldock came to the Gulgong district when a child and attended school at Guntawang. She could recall Gulgong's earlier days, when money used to be so plentiful and streets and shops so crowded that if money was accidentally dropped no attempt would be made, in many cases, to retrieve it. Deceased had a quiet, retiring disposition, being a home-loving woman, but she was well liked and highly respected.
