TOWN MAP - CONSERVATION

Source: Town Map, Preliminary Heritage Conservation Study, Peru Perumal, 1975

THIS MAP IS FROM THE PRELIMINARY HERITAGE CONSERVATION STUDY PREPARED BY SYDNEY ARCHITECT, PERU PERUMAL, WHICH HE PRESENTED TO THE GULGONG COMMUNITY AT A PUBLIC MEETING IN THE PRINCE OF WALES OPERA HOUSE ON 5TH AUGUST 1975.

In July 1981, Perumal, Wrathall & Murphy (Environmental Planners) released the Gulgong Environmental Study for the Mudgee Shire Council and the Heritage Council of NSW. This was followed in October 1982 by their Gulgong Conservation Study - Final Report

The recommendations from both of these documents provided the basis for the Shire's LEP No. 10, from which statutory provisions in relation to the town followed and could be implemented. These documents and the work, much of it voluntary, done by Perumal, established an important blueprint that should have ensured the long-term conservation of the town and its future as a significant tourist destination and educational facility.
