1871 - Christmas Preparations
The festival of the year is rapidly approaching, when the humblest and poorest strain a point to enjoy more than ordinary fare. Thrifty housekeepers are making timely preparations for the coming festival, and providing the materials before the rush sets in. Of those careful providers we would especially draw their attention to the announcements of Messes Booth & Co., Angove, and Woods & Co., in our advertisement columns for the materials for the pudding, and “drop of summat” to wash it down. Also to the attractive “bill of fare” provided by Mr Leggatt of the famed Smithfield Butchery, and by Mr Sharman next to Booth and Co. from which to make a luscious selection, and to those who like something mild Mr Taylor of the New Zealand Bakery will be glad to supply Muffins and Crumpets in any quantity to order. So the public can pat its money and take its choice.
