We understand that a presentation was given to the late Manager of the Gulgong Branch of Australian Joint Stock Bank, on his departure, several constituents of that establishment invited Mr Stewart to the Warburton Hotel and presented him with a very flattering address, and a purse containing fifty sovereigns. Mr Stewart who has been in charge of the Bank at Gulgong since the commencement of the goldfield, was universally respected and many regretted that he was leaving this town. However, advancement is the order of the day, he has been promoted to a more important branch. Thirty one gentlemen signed the presentation card.

GOLDFIELD'S BUSINESS FASHION
In this photograph, there is an appreciable difference between the white-collar attire of the men second from left and furthest at right, and the plainer dress of the other two. The commanding stance and well-cut clothes of the man with his hands on his hips at far right suggests he is the ambitious bank manager, AP Stewart*, a bachelor living at the AJS Bank at the time, who later became general manager of the Australian Bank of Commerce. The man next to him, on the other hand, wears a slovenly waistcoat with several buttons undone and a shapeless sac coat. He is surely dressed for the assayer’s laboratory rather than a manager’s office or clerk’s room.
