JAMES HENRY STAHL

James Henry Stahl, son of Louis Augusta Stahl, was born 13 August 1889 (NSW BDM 27507/1889) to Louis Stahl and Ellen nee Gibbons.

James Henry ("Harry") married:
  • First wife: Vera J Upham in Gulgong on 7 April 1920 (NSW BDM 5942/1920); died 1938.
    • Douglas Henry Stahl - born 5 November 1922 (NSW BDM 42534/1922).
    • June Stahl - born 9 November 1927 (NSW BDM n/a)

  • Second wife: Dorothy K McPhillamy/Smith (NSW BDM 15087/1939); died 30 November 1988.
    • Grantly Arkell Stahl - born 1941 in Gulgong; married Marie K Symes.
    • Anthony James Stahl - born 13 May 1946; died 1948 from Diptheria.
    • Christophel Arkell Stahl - born 1950 in Gulgong

Brigden owned this two-storey building on Herbert St, between Queen and Bayly Streets. A Frazer, watchmaker, occupied the first floor while Brigdens also owned the Beehive store on the right from at least 1900 to 1912 when it was sold to Stahl and Upham. On left is Crossing & Cox, the well-known Stock & Station Agent, formerly Tarrant's Tattersall's Hotel

1912 - NEW GULGONG BUSINESS MEN

Messrs. Stahl and Upham have bought out the well-known business which Mr. A. E. Brigden ran in Gulgong for so many years. These two gentlemen have an extensive experience in business, and understand the art of advantageous buying so as to give best value to customers for their money. The Beehive Store is acknowledged as a 'quality house,' and the new proprietors are determined to enhance its reputation and cement its hold upon the affections of the public.

1917 - THE HOSPITAL.
At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Gulgong District Hospital, the hon. treasurer (Mr. J. H. Stahl) submitted his report for the two months ending May 22.

1919 - GULGONG COUNCIL - FORTNIGHTLY MEETING
The fortnightly meeting of the Gulgong Council was held on Wednesday, November 26, the attendance being as follows:— Aldermen A. Baldwin (Mayor), H. J. Gudgeon, F. R. Tomlinson, H. Miller, G. Hoult C. J. Martin, J. H. Stahl, J. F. Williams, Messrs. W. S. Gibbs (Town Clerk) and J. Lee (I.O.N.).

1935 - GULGONG'S NEW MAYOR.
AT a special meeting of the Gulgong Town Council last night, Alderman J. H. Stahl was elected Mayor of Gulgong for the ensuing 12 months. There were two candidates, the other being Alderman A. E. Souter. retiring Mayor.

1938 - Mrs. J. H. Stahl
THE sad death occurred during the week-end of Mrs Stahl, wife of Mr J. H. Stahl, deputy-mayor of Gulgong. Deceased was a very popular lady and a splendid worker for all charitable movements. Her sudden demise in the prime of life as the result of pneumonia, cast quite a gloom over the old mining town. The funeral yesterday was one of the largest ever seen in Gulgong. To the bereaved we extend our deepest sympathy.
