1914 - Progress at Dunedoo. First Show of a Great Wheat Growing District.
The holding of the first agricultural show was an event of some importance, and the ground, which has great natural beauty in the magnificent forest of trees, presented a splendid setting for the fixture. A month ago the land had not been dedicated, but the association, headed by its energetic patron, Mr. C. Patrick, who has been in the district for 52 years, backed up by the president, Mr. G. C. O'Brien; the hon, secretary, Mr. H. N. Stubbs, and members generally, worked wonders. The primitive simplicity of everything created an atmosphere that can only be associated with pioneering. The farmers and settlers had made good in proving the worth of the soil, and there was no better way of advertising it than through the show. It attracted a large influx of visitors, and vehicles of every description thronged the ringside, while the numerous motor-cars indicated the general prosperity prevailing...
THE feature of the horse section was the very fine display of draughts, especially the mares and young stock, while the ploughing teams made a fine showing. The fact that Clydesdales were the only breed represented indicates the farmers are determined to keep to the purebreds as represented in this particular breed. The winning stallion, 3yrs, in draughts, was Allan and Garland's Royal Ribbon, while in mares a very fine mare, Bawley, owned by Johnson Bros., secured the judge's verdict.
