Jesse Dibley No 1



Jesse Dibley was born in Wadhurst, Sussex, England on 10 November 1804 to Thomas Dibley and Sarah Meason.

Jesse Dibley was a convict on board Norfolk which departed England on 15 April 1825 and arrived in New South Wales on 18 August 1825. He was convicted at the Sussex Assizes and received a life sentence however in Sydney in 1842 he received a Conditional Pardon.

Convict details
• 1823 ~ Jesse was tried at the Essex, England, he was sentenced to life transportation.
• 1825 ~ Jesse was transported from Portsmouth, Hampshire, England aboard the "Norfolk".
• 18 August 1825 ~ Jesse was transported to Port Jackson, Colony of N.S.W. aboard the "Norfolk".
• 1 July 1841 ~ Jesse was granted a Conditional Pardon.

The Conditional Pardons granted to the undermentioned Prisoners, are now lying at this Office, and will be delivered to the respective parties, on payment of the fees due thereon to the public: —

While still a convict, Jesse married Sarah Dean on 27 December 1841 in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Scots Church, Sydney, Colony of New South Wales. They had 9 children.

Sarah DEAN, daughter of William DEAN and Elizabeth HOLLINGSWORTH, was born on 1 March 1810 in the Colony of New South Wales and died on 24 August 1890 in Sunny Corner (R.D.), Colony of New South Wales at age 80.

Jesse died on 13 October 1879 in Diamond Swamp, Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. He is buried in Meadow Flat cemetery.

DIBLEY. — In fond and loving remembrance of my dearly beloved mother, Sarah Dibley, relict of the late Jesse Dibley, who died at her residence, Meadow Flat, Bathurst, August 24, 1890, in her 70th year. Beloved by all.
She has gone to grave; her troubles are o'er,
She's freed from all sorrow and pain,
The trials of this earth, which she patiently bore,
Will never distress her again.
