MENDOORAN

1856 MUNDORAN. [FROM A CORRESPONDENT]
Mundoran, a site for a township, selected God knows how long ago, on the south bank of the Castlereagh River, might have remained for ages yet to come with nothing but the "Government pegs" to indicate the spot where allotments might be bought and houses built, had not private enterprise opened the way to the establishment of a future village, by erecting an inn on the opposite side of the river to that of the so-marked township; since then another inn has sprung up; (in the township,) this is as it should be, opposition they say is the life of trade, and in this branch, particularly, is very conducive to the life of the traveller. We have a post-office too, and there is a little fortune waiting for a blacksmith if he would only come here and commence working. The country looks delightful a great deal of rain having fell lately. Shearing is nearly over, all we want is carriers to take away our wool. There are many hundreds of bales waiting for them.
