Rowland Richard Norris was born 9 April 1863 in Windsor, the son of Alfred James Norris (a grazier) and Mary Ann Hand.
In 1882, at the age of 19 he married Alice Hutchinson, aged 18, in Gulgong. Alice's parents were William Hutchinson (a farmer) and Catherine McKenzie.
Their children were:
- Ernest
- Ada
- Alice
- Stanley
Rowland died of pneumonia at the age of 30 on 30 September 1893, in Gulgong.
Alice Norris nee Hutchinson died of "chronic nephritis heart failure" at the age of 46 on 9 October 1910.

In the Estate of ROWLAND RICHMOND NORRIS late of Springfield near Gulgong in the Colony of New South Wales Laborer deceased intestate.
