Alston Ferrie was born in 1833, the son of John and Jean Ferrie.
He married Eliza (born 1834)
Alston died in St Leonards on 11 July 1904 (NSW BDM 11017/1904). He is buried in Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery NSW, Pbn R 48. Eliza died in 1906. She is buried with him.

A new firm of Auctioneers and Stock Agents are erecting commodious premises in Herbert Street and from the known business capacity of Messrs. McDonnell and Ferrie we doubt not they will receive a fair share of public patronage.

1871 - TOWN TALK
Improvements are still the order of the day. In Herbert Street, Matthews and Frost have opened a well stocked Iron Store with a very neat front. Mr. Samper is also building a large store next to McDonnell and Ferrie’s Produce Store.

To Capitalists, Hotelkeepers, and Storekeepers. - Important Sale. - THURSDAY, 20TH JULY
McDONNELL and FERRIE will submit for public auction, on THURSDAY 20th July, at 12 o’clock noon, the following valuable properties, to close their partnership:-
Lot 1: Those Substantially built and Commodious Premises situate at the corner of Herbert and Bayly Streets, in the town of Gulgong, now used as a PRODUCE STORE, together with the Allotment, having a frontage of 165 feet to Bayly Street and 38 feet to Herbert Street, the whole enclosed with a strong 2 rail paling fence. The building is of iron and floured throughout, and measures 40 X 30 feet, with a verandah 8 feet wide running round the whole front.
Lot 2: A Substantially built STORE, measuring 30 feet by 15 feet, situate at the corner of Herbert & Belmore Streets. On the allotment is a three stall stable, one loose box and four large securely built yards suitable as sale yards.
The Auctioneers deems it necessary to make any comment upon the above described Valuable Properties, as their value as an investment is patent to all who are resident on the goldfield. Being situated in the very best central position, the first lot stands unequalled for any kind of business.
