1933 - OBITUARY - WILLIAM ALFRED FOYSTER
THE late William Alfred Foyster, who passed away at his home, near Mudgee, on July 28th, after a prolonged illness, was born at Dubbo in 1857, and had attained the age of 76 years. He spent his early boyhood with his parents in the Dubbo district, later residing at Ponto, where he engaged in mixed farming with his mother and brothers. In his early twenties he entered the services of the Education Department, and taught school for a number of years at Barringun and Coonamble, resigning to open, in partnership with his brother, one of the first butter factories in the Mudgee district, which they owned for many years.
Dissolving partnership with his brother, he again returned to the Ponto district, where he engaged in wheat and sheep farming from 1901 until 1906, when he decided to enter new fields, and with his family moved to Casino, Richmond River, where he selected land and followed dairying pursuits until 1913, when he disposed of his Casino interests and transferred to Murwillumbah, on the Tweed River, acquiring property there, and engaging in dairying and cane growing for a number of years, when, owing to advancing age, which precluded him from engaging in active life, he resided in Sydney for several years, finally returning to the Mudgee district, with his wife, where he was living in retirement at the time of his death.
The late W. A. Foyster, who saw some early pioneering on the Macquarie River, often reminiscenced on the early life of the settlers. Always a keen follower of politics, he identified himself with various movements for the benefit of the man on the land. He is survived by his wife and four sons. The sons are William (Gulgong), John, Thomas and, Henry (Murwillumbah), North Coast. Brothers, are Thomas (Manildra), Mr. Joseph Jackson, late of Wellington, now residing in Sydney, being a half brother. Mrs. W. Wieand, of Wellington, is a half sister. The late. John Samuel and Frederick. Jackson, of Ponto, were also half brothers. The body was brought to Wellington for burial, and after a service in the Presbyterian Church, the cortege moved for the Presbyterian portion of the general cemetery, where the body was laid to rest. The chief mourners were the wife and sons, and large circle of relatives. The Rev. H. R. Grassick conducted the church service, and also officiated at the graveside. Numerous floral tributes were received.
