For many years he managed farms at Tallewang, and other places. He was a fine, steady, straightforward man, and was held in the highest respect and esteem by all who knew him. 1928 - MANY HAPPY RETURNS.
A beautiful birthday cake on display in a local shop window on Saturday last, was greatly admired. The cake was brought from Sydney to Gulgong by Mr C. Gawthorne for his mother's 77th birthday. Naturally Mrs Gawthorne was a proud woman on Saturday. Her descendants number 44 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

    1931 - PERSONAL
Mrs. J. Gawthorne, of Gulgong, and who is well and favorably known to many in Mudgee, is reported to be rather seriously ill.

    1931 - BROKEN LEG.
A sad accident occurred late on Sunday night last when Mrs. Gawthorne, who was staying with her daughter, Mrs. Turner, and Mr. J. Turner, of White City, Gulgong, broke her leg. It is surmised that Mrs. Gawthorne, who is 79 years of age and has not been in good health, was getting out of bed when she fell. Much sympathy is felt for the grand old lady.
