1954 - MRS. J. P. RYAN
Mrs. Margaret Ryan, wife of Mr. J. P. Ryan, of Herbert Street, passed away at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Crow's Nest, recently, after a short illness. Up till the time of her death deceased and Mr. Ryan were the oldest married couple of Gulgong.
Mrs. Ryan was born in the town 83 years ago, and all her life was spent in the town, where she was a great churchgoer. She was the daughter of the late James and Johanna Berryman, who settled in the district over a century ago.
In her late twenties, she married James Patrick Ryan, of Herbert Street, Gulgong, and had resided there for over fifty years. In her early married life, Mrs. Ryan had one of the main boarding houses in the Gulgong district. She was a great sportswoman. Perhaps one of her last public activities was the planting of a tree in the Coronation Park, Gulgong, on June 2, Coronation Day.
Previous to her death, deceased lost three sons, James, Thomas and Edward. She is survived by Mrs. James Collins, of Crow's Nest (daughter), Mr. Patrick Ryan of Mascot (son) and her husband, Mr. James Patrick Ryan. She was a sister of Messrs, James and William Berryman, of Mascot and of Mesdames Deane, of Mascot, and G. Wilde, of Vaucluse.
Our sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
