FARTHING

George Hyde Farthing married Hannah Shaw in Mudgee in 1862 (NSW BDM 2445/1862). Their children included:

  • William - born 1864 in Mudgee (NSW BDM 11363/1864); married Mary Jane Hatton in 1892 (NSW BDM 5170/1892); died 1926
  • male - born 1867 (NSW BDM 12254/1867)
  • Mary J - born 1867 in Mudgee (NSW BDM 12561/1867)
  • Grace - born 1870 at McDonald's Creek (NSW BDM 13118/1870); died 1871 aged 16 months.
  • Susan - born ca 1874
  • George Lewis - born 1875 in Gulgong (NSW BDM 15080/1875); married Janet Christina McLean in Petersham in 1908 (NSW BDM 5705/1908); he died 1956 in Burwood (NSW BDM 1586/1956)
  • Richard - born 1878 (NSW BDM 17108/1878)
  • Hannah - born 1881 (NSW BDM 21384/1881); died in 1881 from bronchitis, aged 9 months.
  • John J - born 1883 in Gulgong (NSW BDM 24032/1883)
  • Arthur A - born 1888 in Gulgong (NSW BDM 28651/1888)
George Hyde Farthing died in 1908, aged 69, in Sydney (NSW BDM 4091/1908). Hannah Farthing (daughter of Richard Shaw, a shoemaker, and Ellen Lewis) died 24 August 1896 in Gulgong from acute pneumonia (NSW BDM 10029/1896).

NEWS ITEMS

1871 - Coroners Inquest Awfully Sudden Death
Inquest held by Dr. Rowling of Mudgee, on death of married Annie Boyce died suddenly in a neighbour’s house May 13, 1871
Jury of Twelve. 
Hannah Farthing [married woman] sworn,. I know the deceased she lives near me, I saw her about noon, she appeared to be in good health. A man, a stranger came up, we were hanging out the washing, he was looking for a Public House with a saw-pit behind it, I directed him.
It turned out into an argument of the cost of washing, Boyce hit him with a broom, he went to strike her, she collapsed, Dr. Ramsay was called. William Webb Fenton was taken into custody, Sgt O’Donnell gave evidence, accused was intoxicated. Evidence from Edward Dean, Margaret O'Neill, William Hinton, this all took place near Adams Lead. Boyce took fits, verdict died of natural causes.
