NEWS ITEMS

1877 - [INQUEST]
On the 2nd instant, a skeleton of a man was found in an old shaft on the Black Lead, Gulgong. Some clothing, a pair of boots, and a pipe found with the remains have been identified as the property of a man named George Owen alias Skipper, who was much addicted to drink, and who has been missing from the district since the early part of the year 1874, and at an inquest held on the 3rd instant before the District Coroner, the following verdict was returned:—“That we believe the remains to be those of George Owen - alias Skipper, who died from injuries received by accidentally falling down a shaft on the Black Lead.”

1877 - [INQUEST]
An inquest was held on Wednesday last, upon the human remains found at the bottom of the old prospecting shaft, Black Lead. The evidence taken lasted some hours, the jury returning a verdict that they were of opinion that the remains were those of George Owen, and that the deceased met his death by accidentally falling down the shaft.
