Benjamin Lorn "Laurie" Campbell was born 2 April 1900 at "Avoca" Slapdash, to parents Benjamin Lorn Campbell and Mary Jane Lee. He had 4 brothers and 4 sisters: Jack, Harry, Roley, George, Bess, Stella, Rene and Hazel. As a boy, he attended Slapdash Public School and later became a well-known shearer for a number of years.

On 17 November 1928, Benjamin married Phyllis Susan Diehm of Goolma (daughter of Harry Diehm). The wedding took place at St Luke's Anglican Church, Gulgong. They resided in Gulgong for a time and later moved onto the property "Lambing Hill" at Goolma.
Their children were:
- Lorn George Campbell - born 2 August 1935
- Dallas Garth Campbell - born 15 May 1939
Lorn, with his father, became proprietor of the Roxy Theatre Gulgong and later attained his commercial licence and made flying his career. Lorn George Campbell was killed when his plane went down off Sydney in 1960.
Dallas Campbell married Lorna Baldwin on 4 June 1960. He owned the family property at Lambing Hill until his death in 1988.
Laurie and Phyllis moved to Gulgong upon retirement. Laurie became a keen bowler for many years until his health failed. After continued ill health, he passed away in the Gulgong District Hospital on 26 May 1977 at the age of 77.

Cemetery at Lambing Hill near Goolma

On 20 June, 1870, Charlotte Diehm died aged 14 from Diptheria. Henry set aside a small cemetery on his property, "Lambing Hill", which was properly consecrated. The grave has a large hand-carved headstone and a perimeter of sandstone posts. The gate is carved "erected by Heinrich Diehm".
