1920 - DEATH OF DR. McDONAGH
Dr. John Michael McDonagh, B.A., M.D., F.R.C.S., M.R.C.P., who had been for 12 months or more surgeon in attendance to Stadiums Ltd., passed away at his residence, College-street, Sydney, on Thursday morning last, after an illness of less than 24 hours, aged 61. He was a prominent figure in his profession in Sydney for many years. No more ardent follower of boxing existed. Dr. McDonagh and the late Mr. Larry Foley were close friends during several years and partners in some business ventures. He won strong popularity among boxers and patrons of the game, and gave advice and professional assistance otherwise freely without thought of fee or reward. Those who knew the worthy Doc at all well will surely miss him very much. The funeral, which took place on Saturday morning last, was largely attended. Doctor McDonagh's remains were interred at Waverley. On Saturday night at the Stadium the referee and the seconds of the principals in the main event wore crepe arm bands.
