Red Hill Hotel of John Howard in Mayne Street, between Blanchard's butchery and the General Store of Christopher Young. This hotel was originally erected by Joseph Dietz in June 1870, just two months after gold was first discovered. He sold to Tom Saunders, who was attributed with finding the first gold on Red Hill, which was just behind the hotel. Saunders sold out and John Howard was the licensee as of January 1872. Butcher Alfred Blanchard from next door is near the lamp post.
