A telegram from Mudgee says : — An Italian, miner, named Antonio Giovanni Grasso, aged about 56 years, met with a fatal accident at Meroo, near Mudgee, on Monday whilst prospecting for gold. At the time of the accident Grasso was working under a slab of slate, a huge portion of which, weighing about a ton, suddenly fell upon him. His mate who was working near managed to extricate him by means of a lever, and the sufferer was conveyed to Mudgee for medical attendance, but died 20 minutes after his arrival from severe internal injuries. An inquest was held to-day.
