1918 - A Beryl Soldier. PAYS THE FULL PRICE
Word has come to hand to the effect that Private R[eginald]. Peck, of Beryl, had died at the front as a result of pneumonia. The young soldier was well known in the Gulgong district. His parents also reside at Beryl, and to them we extend our deepest sympathy.

Walter, Archie and Frederick Watt

Three Watt brothers were attached to different battalions. Walter and Frederick were killed in action and Archie died from pneumonia in 1915 during the the evacuation from Gallipoli.
Walter is buried at Gallipoli, Archie at Lemnos and Fred was killed on the Somme with no known grave. The three Watt boys have commemorative plaques in the Methodist portion of the Gulgong cemetery.

Private Henry Harvey Mctegg
Private Henry Harvey Mctegg grew up in Gulgong. He enlisted in the Citizen Military Forces on January 15th 1942 then was transferred to the 2nd Australian Imperial Force on the 24th August 1942 he was posted to the 2/2 Infantry Battalion and embarked at Cairns on December 1944, arriving at Aitape on the North Coast of New Guinea on 31st December 1944.
In fierce fighting Dagura Private Henry Mctegg was awarded the 1939-1945 Pacific Star, the war medal 1939-45 and the Australian Service Star Medal 1939-45.
